Acrobatic Adventures is a Community Interest Company that uses the inherent dramaturgy of circus & stunt performance to create thrill seeking theatre & promote emotional well-being. We melt the boundaries between performer & audience through the visceral & universal experiences of being human. Our work is mischievous, connective & trauma informed.
Acrobatic Adventures is lead by Hobbit who is neuro-diverse and Queer. They have an MA in Directing Circus, over 20 years experience working with youth groups, from Early Years to young adults, and 18 years as an award-winning international performer specialising in acrobatics, children's theatre and stunt work; Hobbit is dedicated to exploring avenues of connection and expressing meaning through circus, stunts and illusion.
Hobbit wants everyone to know how normal it is to experience mental health issues & that, just like getting regular exercise, it is important to nurture our mental well-being too. They believe that Circus has a unique opportunity to create connection through risk & vulnerability.
Their directorial work is inspired by the primal and brazen stunts of Elizabeth Streb & the intuitive curiosity of Brene Brown. It is is politically focused and grounded in the shared yet diverse experience of existing in a human body. Hobbit has extensive experience in various performance contexts: From small & mid-scale black box theatres to large-scale, site-specific, spectacular ensemble shows.
Currently they lead the Final Major Project module at Circomedia: Academy Of Circus & Physical Theatre, Bristol.
